Welcome one and all to the first blog of 2011. I hope you all had a wonderful new years and are rested and happy!
As my regular readers will have noticed, I didnt write on my blog yesterday. I took the day off. Actually in reality I was just quite busy, and then at the normal time that I write my blog, I was exhausted and had enough to drink that I would likely rant for a full page about the awesomeness of the 7/11 Chicken Tender. This was quite a regular topic of conversation for me last night. To inform you, I feel that the 7/11 Chicken Tenders are fantastic. Sometimes a little bit dry, but always warm and fairly fresh white meat. They are wonderful. Affordable and delicious. I say, next time you are in or near a 7/11 I think you should try one. I think you will love them. And if you dont? Well... I guess you are out $1.50.
I will be the first to admit that when I was young I thought I knew everything. This was a belief that I kept close to my heart and felt no need to preach. It was more a fact than anything. As I grew up I realized, very quickly, that I was wrong. I have the privilege and the discomfort of often being around 3 of the most pretentious 19 year olds I have ever met. They speak of Trotsky as if they shared a drink with him once. They will rant on and on about the most mundane things. Why do the people with the most intelligence have the least social skills. Doesnt that seem ironic? These kids will be combative and disagree with things you put forward in a conversation, not to prove you wrong, but to show off all that they know. These guys have never left the country, dont have girlfriends, and have next to no life experience, but I wish them the best in this world that owes them so much.
Today I went to see Gullivers Travels. This film features comedy stars Jack Black, Jason Segel, Billy Connolly and Catherine Tate (if you dont know who she is, look her up! Worth it) With those 4 alone this movie should easily be able to make anyone laugh. The film is touted as being from the creative minds behind shrek (writer) and Monters VS Aliens (director) which is true... sadly for the creative team... those are about it for worthwhile credits. You could also say from the creative minds behind Get Him To The Greek and Sharks Tale... and then you might have an idea of what kind of weak plot/plot hole extravaganza you will be wasting your money on. I would throw my vote behind this film as one of the worst in the last 5 years.
Last night for New Years I jumped on stage and performed a bit with my good friends at Atomic Vaudeville. It was nice to be back on my favorite stage in front of such a supportive crowd. I had a great time. Sadly, I didnt know what I was going to say before I walked on stage, but what I made up on the spot seemed to be funny enough for the audience as they seemed to laugh a lot. I would like to be able to throw my name in the hat to see if I could get my one man show in the Victoria Fringe Festival, but sadly I dont have the money for it. Good intentions are great, but good intentions cant take the place of $500+.
I had a wonderful time last night and it was nice to ring in the new year with such good friends. We called my mom just before the countdown so that the crowd could say Hi to her and she could "join in". It was nice to have her there if only by telephone. It was also nice to kiss my lady on our first new years together.
Well since it is the end of the first day of the year I shall close the computer screen and drift off into a slumber knowing that tomorrow morning, I dont work. Let the actual holiday begin! thanks!
